Avoid The Pile Up!

It has started! Ready or not, the wheels are turning for your family, quite literally. School is in full swing with homework and projects starting to trickle in. Not to forget the extracurriculars and social requests, from Friday night football, swim meet, soccer practice, math club, band, planning committee and the list goes on. That doesn’t even include mom or dad’s own work/social commitments. Maybe you spend so much time transporting your family places, you have set up a workstation in the car.

It is easy to start to feel the load “piling up” on top of your family. You blink in the middle of fall and realize you haven’t come up for air. Well, stop. Take a breath, then consider these tips:

· It is okay to say no! You are raising one or more human beings who are individuals. You can’t physically be everywhere all the time. And that is alright. Despite the pressures we feel to do it all for our kids and their future, we promise your child(ren) will still turn out great if they have to narrow down the extracurricular options. Sometimes less is more to better commit ourselves to the things we can do and be able to do them with more confidence and energy. In turn this helps ensure enough time in the day to also focus on studying without distraction and the feeling of being rushed.

· Organization is key. For some organizing comes easy and for others it is like the junk drawer we keep closing and pretending doesn’t exist. Toss and run! But even as initially painful as it may be, being organized can save us time and a much bigger headache later. You don’t have to have the latest and greatest office supplies, bento box, or photo-worthy backpack storage space. Work with what you have. Consider letting your child lay out their clothes the night before school. Create a clean workstation for your child. A dry-erase calendar for the whole family is a simple supply that everyone can add to throughout the week.

· Rest. We have said it many times on this blog because it remains important. Proper sleep for the whole family is critical. A routine bedtime (as best you can) will help your child(ren) focus on both school and their extracurricular load confidently.

· Consider the plethora of benefits of an in-home private tutor with beam Tutoring. Having a regularly scheduled tutoring session for your child with their same constant tutor, keeps an added sense of routine for homework and study time within your family’s extra busyness. Tutoring does not need to be an added burden or stress, but rather, can slide right into that time you have carved out to focus on those items already.

beam Tutoring is a great resource for your family. Our team’s combination of tutors has a wide array of experience in subjects all across the board and through all grade levels, test prep, and executive functioning. Call or email us today to help ease that pile up. By the way parents, you are doing great!
